Time and its lessons
No one has to 'watch out' for Mark Eiamamornpan - he's already here
Thanop "Mark" Eiamamornpan is one punctual guy. He's always reading about time (and space to spend it in) and one day hopes to time-travel into the future - which would be taking punctuality to an extreme. In the meantime he collects wristwatches. The heir to Frank's Jewelry Creations, which he helps run, Mark has been amassing watches since he was a kid. The cheapest one is a Casio digital worth Bt1,000, but the prices rise considerably from there, and he's not saying how many he owns. Which timepiece he loves most depends on the occasion. When he goes sailing he's wearing Omega's America's Cup. As a James Bond fan, he's coveting the new Omega "Quantum of Solace" limited edition. Sometimes they're investments. Mark has No 1 from the 50 editions of the Piaget Black Tie that were made. That's got to be worth a bundle, right? He's never checked on the value. "The real value is in my heart. I'm happy when I see the price is up, but even if I were poor I'd never sell them." Then he gets really philosophical. "People and watches are multifunctional. I shouldn't just walk, in the same way that a watch shouldn't just tell the time. We have to do other things too. "And once your time is up, it's gone forever, so we have to do our best while we've still got time on our side."
XTRA 3 terrific tickers
His first: A four-colour Swatch he bought when he was nine. His source of pride: A Casio with a calculator function that once helped him finish an exam ahead of everyone else. The one he won't wear: An Omega Speedmaster that celebrated Michael Schumacher's first world championship. Mark's father bought it for him 12 years ago and Mark later got Schumacher's autograph on the case.
