The drum'n' bass icon makes a date to shine at RCA's 808 on Saturday

A giant of the music industry is here to pound the dance floor. English DJ, producer and actor Goldie is back, dropping his towering tunes for Bangkok’s drum ’n’ bass fans this weekend.
Born Clifford Joseph Price, Goldie cut his teeth on the breakbeat and drum ’n’ bass scene in the early ’90s. Musical collaborations with David Bowie, Noel Gallagher of Oasis, Bjork and DJ Pete Tong followed, but Goldie also moved into acting with roles in the James Bond movie “The World Is Not Enough”, “Snatch” and appearances in TV reality shows. Oh, and he also paints, creating works that have been shown across Europe.
Somehow we managed to tear him away for a chat before he hits the deck on Saturday night.

What are you up to now?
I have had the busiest period in my career in the past six months. I’ve just rerigged my entire studio for the next phase in my production. I’ve been DJing three or four times a week and have just finished a TV show on BBC television called “Maestro” in which I learnt how to and actually conducted classical music. My art has also been going very well and I have a show starting in April 2009 with 30 new pieces – check out www.EddieLock.com for my artwork.

How’s it going with the film you’re writing, “Sine Tempus”?
Going very well. We’re at the last stage right now. Every scene is completed and we are now adding the final touches.

Who’s your dream collaborator?
Lyle Mayes.

Who’s the rising star in the drum ’n’ bass scene now?
A guy called Jubei – he’s from Newcastle and he’s making some really good stuff. I also really like a guy called Lenzman from the Netherlands.

It’s been a while since you last performed in Bangkok. How do you like the crowd?
Love it here! It’s a really good crowd who are always very receptive and the parties are always a lot of fun.

What’s going to happen this time?
I’m going to be as dynamic as possible with my set and try to show everything that drum ’n’ bass has to offer right now.
