In searching for something better for country

Unhappy with a government she considered corrupt, Angkhana "Bo" Radabpanyawoot joined the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) rally hopeful of using her bare hands to help create something better for the country.

Tragically, the 25-year-old ended up losing her life while walking to the Royal Plaza with her younger sister and their mother on Tuesday evening.

Fatal wound

Though Angkhana's mother tried to shield her, what looks like shrapnel tore through her left side leaving a fatal wound.

Angkhana died even before she reached Ramathibodi Hospital, said her sister.

As of press time, her mother and younger sister remain hospitalised.

"She was just a woman and unarmed," said Jinda Radabpanyawoot, Angkhana's father. "Now, she's dead. No one from the government or police has stepped forward yet to show responsibility. They haven't offered assistance, either."

Jinda refuses to believe that a teargas round could have caused the size of wound that killed his daughter.

She and other family members had regularly attended PAD rallies since 2006, he says. The PAD has offered to organise the bathing rites for Angkhana's body at Government House, which has been besieged by PAD supporters for more than a month now.

Jinda, however, has turned down the offer.

"I feel uncomfortable about it. I want to send her body to a temple," Jinda said. "Besides, I know the PAD has its hands full. I think it would be better for me to hold her funeral myself".

The funeral rites will take place over seven days at the Sriprawat Temple.

'She died for the country'

"I've lost her forever, but I am proud she died for the country," said Jinda.

"The authorities should review their actions. Is it right for the government to order police to harm people?" said a tearful Jinda.
