Smells like a shoestring
Published on October 7, 2008
The credits for "E-Tim Tai Nae" don't give Udom "Nose" Taepanich enough credit.
He's the star and the screenwriter, but he was also the bagman for the comedy film's financing. And when that didn't work out, he had to trim the costs. Director Yuthlert "Tom" Sippapak dispatched Nose to try and squeeze some more dough out of Sahamongkol Film's Somsak "Sia Jiang" Techaratanaprasert, who'd slashed the budget from Bt70 million to Bt17 million. The studio chief told Nose to wake up and smell the economy, so instead of being shot in multiple foreign locations, "E-Tim Tai Nae" was filmed in … Pattaya! Nose also recruited his pals as (cheap) co-stars and ditched the scene where he accidentally levels the Taj Mahal. "E-Tim Tai Nae" co-stars Japanese model-actress Asuka. It opens in cinemas on Thursday.
