The frontman of X Japan stops off in Bangkok to chat about the band's upcoming concert
Some 4,000 fans turned out to welcome Hiyoshi Yoshiki, frontman of Japan's legendary rock band X Japan, cheering wildly as his private jet came into land last weekend at Don Muang Airport. The loud shouts of "We are X" were echoed on Monday by more than 1,000 crazy fans, who patiently waited for him to show up at Siam Paragon's Siam Pavalai theatre. The band's drummer and keyboardist was in the Kingdom to chat about the band's recently launched official website and Bangkok concert, which is scheduled to take place early next year. Dressed in black, his eyes hidden behind shades, Yoshiki looked almost shy as he sat cross-legged before an audience of adoring Thai, Japanese and Taiwanese fans. Daily Xpress slipped a few questions to the busy superhero.
Will the Bangkok concert be as big as your show at Tokyo Dome? I think so.
What's behind bringing [late guitarist] Hide back on stage? We wanted our band to be complete again with all five of us on stage including Hide who is still in our hearts. So we bring Hide back on video and through hologram and yes, he'll be with us in Bangkok too.
When will the new album come out? We are currently working on new songs, so we'll probably release it early next year."
What's the difference between X Japan now and 10 years ago? "Ten years ago, X Japan had great fans. Now X Japan has the greatest fans ever.
Have you considered doing a drum clinic or workshop? My style is very destructive. I'm not sure it would be healthy to play like me.
Would you like to say to your fans? Give me a hug.
