Fighter Amnat Ruenroeng goes in the ring with Jack Willie of Papua New Guinea today in the 48-kilo light-flyweight opening bout.
The 29-year-old from Chon Buri, who picked up bronze at last year's World Championships in Chicago, took up boxing just two years ago while in prison. He won two golds at the Sports Behind Bars Games. Willie is regarded as one of the toughest in the class. He has won the Oceania Boxing Championships three times, the last this year. Nontapat Panchan, who became the first from Thailand to compete in the men's individual-foil fencing, takes on Poland's Slawomir Mocek today. Nontapat, 27, finished a distant 78th in last year's World Championships at St Petersburg. In shooting, Tanyaporn Prucksakorn, who was born in Dallas, will try to regain her form. She was a distant 39th in the women's 10-metres air pistol. Today, she competes in the 25m pistol. Swimmer Natthanan Junkrajang - who was in national-record-breaking form in the 200m freestyle on Monday - competes in the 100m freestyle preliminary heats. She was earlier forced to skip the 400m freestyle after suffering and illness. On the water, after the first four races, windsurfer Ek Boonsawat is in 21st place in the men's RSX at the Qingdao Sailing Centre. Team-mate Napalai Thansai is in 19th after three races in the women's class. Today is a rest day.
