Lifters look to continue quest; Boonsak, Tammy in action today
After the success of weightlifter Prapawadee Jaroenrattanatarakoon, Athens Olympic bronze medallist Wandee Kameaim hopes to repeat the feat today in the 58-kilo class. The 30-year-old from Si Sa Ket will have to beat reigning Olympic champion Chen Yanqing of China who returns to defend her title on home soil. Chen is the world-record holder in the snatch and clean-and-jerk categories. Other medal prospects are Russian Marina Shainova, silver medallist at last year's World Championships at Chiang Mai and O Jong Ae of the People's Republic of Korea, the bronze winner at the world meet. Team-mate Phaisan Hansawong competes in the men's 62-kilo division. Meanwhile, swimmer Natthanan Junkrajang, who withdrew from the women's 400-metres freestyle yesterday, is due to take part in the 200m freestyle. Boonsak Ponsana is looking forward to a revenge match against Indonesian Sony Dwi Kuncoro, world No 5, to whom he lost in the bronze-medal match in Athens. Tamarine Tanasugarn, quarter-finalist at this year's Wimbledon, takes on Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson in today's tennis first round. Also kicking off their campaign at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Centre are windsurfers Ek Boonsawat and Napalai Thansai.
