HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn faxed a message to the Thai Embassy in Beijing expressing her happiness at the golden success of Prapawadee Jaroenrattanatarakoon.

"Congratulations on Prapawadee's success. Her victory has brought fame and reputation to her family and the whole country," the message reads.

Swimmer in pain

Natthanan Junkrajang skipped the women's 400m freestyle swimming event after suffering from stomach ache. Team doctor Orasri Jayabhui revealed that Natthanan was given a pain-killer. It was later confirmed that she will take part in the 200m freestyle today.

No joy for cyclist

Chanpeng Nontasin finished a disappointing 61st place in the women's 126km road race in the cycling competition. Nonthasin, the first Thai cyclist to compete in the Olympics in 40 years, clocked three hours, 51.51 minutes.
