Centre encourages people to recreate scrap into something interesting
Halting global warming is not so hard. Imagine an innovative sculpture created from old jeans or a massive origami from used paper, or even modern furniture made from recycled plastic. All these innovative ideas will soon be real at Siam Discovery Centre's Eco Project. The shopping complex launched this yesterday. It hopes to reduce negative effects on the environment. Environment Minister Anongwan Thepsuthin was there to kick things off. "We want to encourage people of all ages that it's not difficult to help save our environment. You just need a will," says Chadatip Chutrakul of Siam Piwat who came up with the idea. Each month until the end of the year there will be workshops on environmental issues. Earlier this month there was an ecofriendly furniture exhibition by Singh Intra-chooto of the architecture school at Kasetsart University. He says the project will spread knowledge about saving the environment. "Many people today still don't know the difference between recycling and reusing. This project will help.
What's next? @ Scrap-Lab from July to October challenges university students to reuse waste created by Siam Discovery Centre. @ Origami World from August to September are paper-folding workshops where anyone can enter the Global Warming Alleviation contest. See a five-metre high origami creation. @ Jeans for Green in November will see donated denims made into sculptures.
