Nearly eight out of every 10 young women students are sexually active, a Suan Dusit Poll says.
It says about seven out of 10 young women know someone who's had an unwanted pregnancy. And, half of all young women students have had an abortion. The survey quizzed more than 1,000 aged between 15 and 20. Health Department chief Narongsakdi Aungkasuvapala says teenagers face many risks. And, their attitudes have changed. Being sexually active out of marriage is more acceptable than before - in fact it's considered normal, he says. Women lose their virginity on average at 16 and men at 15, the Asia-Pacific Council on Contra-ception says. The campaign to reduce unwanted pregnancies and abortions can be found on the Web at mylovemycontrol.com.
