Democrat deputy chief expected to announce second term bid for Bangkok governorship on August 1

Apirak Kosayodhin will seek a second term as Bangkok's governor.

"He will officially make the announcement on August 1," a Bangkok Metropolitan Administra-tion source says.

Apirak will run as a Democrat. He is the party's deputy leader.

The election four years ago was Apirak's political debut. The party vigorously supported him.

"The Democrat Party is now looking to see how best to run the Apirak campaign," the source says.

In his last campaign the party portrayed him as a "professional executive".

Projects

The source says Apirak wants to emphasise a second term will allow him to complete projects he started. These include the Sathorn-Taksin Skytrain extension and the Ratchaphruek-Chong Nonsee Bus Rapid Transit route.

Apirak's term ends on August 28. It is expected he will not remain as acting governor during the election, because it will cramp his campaigning.

The Democrats are confident Apirak will win again, the source adds.
