The boss' crazy idea that he can save a pile of money by having all of his staff work at home basically means we'll all be hermits, but, like every evil idea, there's a silver lining to it.
Sekret Communications managing director Yulawan Laungprasert has transported her whole operation to her home - complete with the staff - and says it's way more fun than putting in regular hours at a proper corporate office. "I always had to wake up at 9, but now I can wake up anytime I want!" she says - except for when she has to go out and meet a client, of course. She used to spend Bt3,000 a week taking her employees out for dinner after work. Now she cooks them meals at her place, so that outlay is down to Bt800. Her travelling costs have dropped from Bt10,000 to Bt6,000. Air-conditioning, electricity and the Internet are together a very manageable Bt2,500. Okay, where's the catch? Well, Yulawan did pour Bt200,000 into converting her house for business use. But you're probably working alone anyway, Mr Hermit, so all you need to do is clean off the coffee table in front of the TV.
