Anastasia Beverly Hills, the salon where Hollywood entities like Kate Winslet and Madonna get their brows shaped, opened a branch at Central World yesterday and already expects some 40 to 50 people to make appointments every day.

Hitomi Takahashi, the chief of training and salon operation at Anastasia, Japan, has been in town for a month now to train the local staff. In Japan, Takahashi says, eyebrow shaping has become such a craze that some 40 women, ranging in age from 10 to 70, visit the salon every day. However, she says, it isn't just women who like the perfectly shaped brow, men go for it too. The reason? Everybody wants to look good, of course.

"The founder, Anastasia Soare says eyebrows frame the face. If the frame is ordinary, your face will look ordinary, but if you make the frame lookspecial, it will make you prettier," Takahashi explains.

Local celebrities and socialites like Sutassanee Kunplin, Srikanya Saktidej Bhanubandh, Pasaweepitch Sornak, Kron-kanok Yongsakul, Nathakarn Prasopsaiponkul had their brows reshaped yesterday at the launch, and most said they would be returning even though they've never let anyone touch their eyebrows before.

Blooming brows

"I never thought I had a problem with my eyebrows before, but my face started looking brighter and sharper after they were done. Even without makeup, my face looks perfect," Sutassanee enthuses.

Takahashi says the service is most advantageous for people with thick eyebrows, though those with fine brows will be shown how to shape and accent them with makeup.

Getting your brows shaped costs Bt800 per session and should be done once a month.
