Tamarine gets doctor's orders to rest her elbow
Tamarine Tanasugarn will postpone her return to court to rest her injured right elbow following advice from a Siriraj Hospital doctor yesterday. The Thai No 1 was advised to take a three-week break from tennis after Dr Teerawat Kunthanan diagnosed that a ligament in her elbow was torn, prompting her to withdraw from the US$600,000 East West Bang Classic starting on July 21 in Los Angeles. "The condition is not serious but the doctor said I need to take a longer break," said Tamarine, who will need to do rehab before picking up the racquet again. However, the injection she received contains steroids which will remain in her body for the next three months. Dr Teerawat issued a declaration for Tammy to guarantee it was used for medical purpose to prevent any doping issues. Tamarine, who climbed from No 60 to No 37 in the world rankings this week after securing a quarter-final berth at Wimbledon, will resume action in the WTA Tier I Rogers Cup in Montreal from July 28-August 3. After that, she is scheduled to play in Cincinnati and in either Forest Hills or New Heaven before concluding the American hard-court season at the US Open.
