Teenagers Wasin Sripat-hra and Patcharajutha Kongkrapan will spearhead a 18-member national team after winning the men's and women's categories respectively in the selection trials held at the Royal Hills Golf Resort & Spa in Nakhon Nayok province yesterday.
The Thailand Golf Association held the event to search for a new set of national players, who will represent the country in international tournaments for the next two years. The 17-year-old Wasin from Triam Udom Suksa School completed a wire-to-wire victory after firing a final round of three-under par 69. SEA Games-winner Thanyakorn Klongpa settled for second place, six strokes off the pace, while Apichart Papitak took third spot. Wasin was delighted after realising his dream of becoming a national player. "I'm very happy to eventually make it. I took a one-month leave from school to prepare for this tournament. I'm glad that my hard work has paid off," he said. In the women's category, 16-year-old Patcharajutha was declared the winner despite enduring a disappointing final round of one-over par 73. Moreeya Juthanukarn finished as runner-up.
