Student seeks police protection

A university senior has sought police protection from debt collectors whose threats have kept him from school for seven months.

The unnamed student complained to the Children, Juveniles and Women's Division, and is now under police protection. Turns witness He has been offered immunity to testify against bookmakers and debt collectors when they are prosecuted.

The division went public yesterday in a bid to convince other victims to come forward.

The student says he's cut classes for seven months after debt collectors came to his school to intimidate him over money he owes to a football gambling ring.
