A Bangkok street sweeper yesterday found cheques worth Bt2 million and returned them to their owner.

Nokkaew Jong-aing, 55, was working on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road at about 5am when she spotted a brown envelope soaked in rainwater from the previous night.

Inside there were several cheques, so she alerted her boss about the find, prompting Lak Si district office to contact Siam Commercial Bank, from which the cheques were issued to an individual in a loan scheme.

Bank worker

The person who lost the cheques while hailing a taxi was a bank worker who asked not to be named. He collected the cheques yesterday and said he was so worried about the loss he could not sleep. He tearfully gave Nokkaew a hug.

Lak Si district chief Amornrat Kitiyanawat said the district office encouraged its workers to do good deeds and rewarded such staff with Bt1,680, as in Nokkaew's case.

She revealed that another district official had found Bt55 million in cheques belonging to TOT and returned them.
