Hum a few bars - it's probably Air Supply, and they're in town on Tuesday
With their orchestral soft rock and romantic lyrics, Australian duo Air Supply were among the favourites of early-'80s radio. Now they're bound for Bangkok once again. Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell met in 1976 while performing in "Jesus Christ Superstar" in Sydney, pooled their talents and released a self-titled debut album the same year. They've since recorded 20 discs and charted a string of global hits, including "All Out of Love", "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" and "Lost in Love". Hitchcock has a few things to tell Daily Xpress readers by e-mail.
Where are you? We're on the road playing dates in Southeast Asia and Latin America, and we're going to Israel for the first time.
When do we hear the new album? We hope it's out this year.
Where do you place Air Supply in the music scene? We've worked very hard for over 30 years to establish ourselves as one of the hardest-working touring bands in the world, with audiences on every continent. I find a lot of the music these days disposable and forgettable, though of course there are exceptions. We get our inspiration from the fans. What's the biggest challenge?Travelling and the physical requirements are the most difficult things to deal with.
If you weren't part of Air Supply, what would you be doing today? Probably selling hamburgers at McDonald's!
What will the Bangkok show be like this time? We've always enjoyed Bangkok tremendously, and our fans there are incredible! Of course we'll play the hits, some new songs too.
