Carrie may have got her man at last in the 'Sex and the City' film,
much to the envy of a lot of frustrated Bangkok girls
In "Sex and the City: The Movie", Carrie finally seems to have found true love with a reformed Mr Big. A lot of Thai women flocking to see the film are still waiting, though. Apparently, while women everywhere yearn for a stable relationship, a lot of Thai ladies are getting men similar to the Mr Big of the TV series - always secretly dating other women. Pissara "Ploi" Umavija-ni, who handles the foreign artists for Grammy International, says many of her friends are facing the dilemma where they don't know where they stand with a man. "Fidelity is a big issue here, because even if you really like that person, you can't really know if he's only dating you," she says. Issues like this cropping up in the story line is what got many girls watching "Sex and the City" on HBO. Everyone remembers the time Mr Big was caught dining out with another woman - even as Carrie was starting to believe he was getting serious about her. Kritteera "Khem" Inpornwichit, the host of TV's "Teesip", says that while there are plenty of men around, good ones are scarce. Modern relationships do tend to be more superficial, she says, but she's the traditional type and wants to have one true love. The men in her life may not want the same thing though. "Let's put it this way: Today a lot of men have a lot more choice," she says. Virithipa "Woonsen" Pakdeeprasong, a Channel V VJ, is having lots of fun at the moment, but eventually she'd like to settle down and have a family and kids. But finding someone to trust isn't that easy in Bangkok, she agrees, and the double standards drive her crazy. "When a Thai woman cheats it's not okay, but when a Thai man cheats, they think it's okay," she says. "But actually, now there are many girls who won't accept that." It's left to them to try and piece the puzzle together like Carrie did, and keep on hoping.
