Reality is a slap in the face for the four women of physical theatre group B-Floor. Their response is 'Room No 0'
Hardly pausing for breath after its success at B-Fest: Physical Theatre Weeks last month, Bangkok's premier physical theatre company B-Floor is rolling out new production "Room No 0" ("Hong Tok Krathaek Mailek Soon"). The brief synopsis is intriguing: "On a long journey together, four women decide to tell the story of their experiments with truth." Co-director of "0" Jarunun "Jaa" Phantachat elaborates, "We're exploring what's happening in the world and the effects it has on us. We've been doing lots of physical improvisations, then choosing what to keep for the storyline."
Truth experiments "Starting points vary. For example, we're fascinated by the effects that mass media entertainment has on its audience. We're wondering how we would respond to a slap in the face by a handsome guy, like the one Ken Teeradej gives in soap opera 'Sawan Bieng'. But it's all experimental at this stage, hence the title." The all-female cast comprises two veteran performers - Farida Jiraphan and Jaa herself - and two newcomers discovered at "B-Fest" - Sasapin Siriwanij and Mina Chongphaibun. Jaa adds that there will be no language barrier at the performance. "Physical movements will convey the messages, and the text, with English-translation surtitles, will only link the scenes."
