Pop sensation Sarunyu Winaipanit is big in Japan, where's known as the 'Prince of Smile'
Pop singer Sarunyu "Ice" Winaipanit isn't just turning heads at home with his smooth vocals and good looks. He also has the ladies swooning in Japan. Three months ago the GMM Grammy artist welcomed 10 Japanese fans who'd travelled all the way to Bangkok just to see him. Then in April, he travelled to Japan to perform at the Kawasaki Asia Music Festival, greeting several hundred fans who had also snapped up his second album, "Party on Ice". Known in Japan as the "Prince of Smile", Ice is being marketed by the Japanese talent agency Anacott, which has been collaborating with GMM since 2006. Ice made a splash following the distribution of a 15-song video compilation, which also featured singers Patiparn "Mos" Patawekarn and palitchoke "Peck" Ayanabutr. "He has a great voice and he's good looking too," says Anacott founder Miho muraoka. "Mos or Peck will be next." While Ice's Thai fans are mostly teenagers, in Japan he attracts working women and housewives. "His target group is aged between 30 and 40," Muraoka says.
