The Bangkok catwalk saw the Thai launch of Louis Vuitton's autumn-winter 2008 line last week
Bangkok's River residence flowed with a bold reinterpretation of femininity by designer Marc Jacobs last week. Dinesh Kanbiah, Louis Vuitton's director of public relations for Asia Pacific, was on hand to give Daily Xpress some exclusive insight.
Men's collection He began by explaining Jacobs' cinematic inspiration: the sharp-suited thieves of 1963 French cultclassic "Any Number Can Win", whose booty of banknotes from the Cannes Casino ended up spread across a swimming pool. "The shorter-sleeved jacket is the new silhouette, aiming to show the cufflinks, wristwatch and some accessories," said Kanbiah. "Ties are also big this season, cut slim with different textures. The palette ranges from emerald green, innocent baby blue and flamboyant brown to classic black, and warm greys.
Women's collection Pastel shades range from the almond green of a flounced blouse matched with the sandy beige of a straight skirt to the lilac of a flared skirt beneath the discreet yellow of a woollen jacket. A daring flash of red occasionally peeks through. The "Into the Curl" jewellery line echoes the banknote motif in contours that wind around each other in rings, bracelets, brooches, necklaces, ear rings and even a belt buckle. This same rhythm is set with the hats. For dresses, skirts, jackets and coats, the waist is slim and hips pronounced. The place of honour goes to the 16-centimetre heels on boots, low boots and pumps. Connoisseurs will notice an allusion to the history of the Monogram canvas in the suede corduroy bags: the padlock featuring the LV seal.
