American DJ Steve Aoki is back for a second bite of the Big Mango
Great news for clubbers! After playing just half his set in his debut show last December - the result of the general election and unpredictable closing times, leading American DJ Steve Aoki returns to 808 tonight supported by Mark the Cobrasnake for what promises to be a night to remember. Steve Aoki - aka Kid Millionaire - has risen from throwing underground concerts in his living room to manning DJ decks around the world. He's the owner of Dim Mak Records, which has bands like the Kills and Pretty Girls Make Graves on its books. Earlier this year he released his debut mix CD, "Pillowface & His Airplane Chronicles", which successfully rides the electro and nu-rave wave. The DJ is also into fashion and has his own line, selling the ubiquitous Dino-print hoodies worn by a number of celebrities and devoted fans. Before he hits the deck at 808 tonight, Daily Xpress squeezed a few words from him via e-mail.
What are you up to now? Sitting in Sheraton hotel in Seoul, South Korea - just landed from Osaka. Watching TV with Cobrasnake before I head down to do a sound check.
How's it going with the mix CD? Great. We've hit the Billboard Electronic chart's Top 10 and we're getting great reviews. It was a fun process putting it together.
So what took you so long to cut it? Licensing - getting the homies to sing on the tracks.
Where are you at with your fashion lines now? Dim Mak sunglasses are coming out this summer, new Dim Mak headphones next month, and a new Aoki collection's coming out in the fall.
Who's your style icon? That'd have to be George Garrow from Ksubi.
What do you think of the Bangkok crowd so far? Fun ... and alive!
What's your next plan career-wise? Studio, studio, studio!
