Sophia is sole Thai survivor

Teenage Sophia Mulsap became the sole local survivor after she dismissed India's Kumari-Sweta Solanki 6-4 3-6 6-3 in the first round of the US$10,000 SAT-Lawn Tennis Women's Circuit at the Rama Garden Hotel.

Five of her countrywomen made their exit. Her doubles partner Varatchaya Wongteanchai was knocked out by Japanese qualifier Q-Ai Yamamoto 5-7 6-2 5-7. 

Wild-card Khunpak Issara lost a three-setter to Uzbek Fed Cup player Albina  Khabibulina 5-7

6-4 2-6 and Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul went down to Australia's Monika Wejnert 2-6 0-6.

Thais top group in AFC futsal c'ship

Thailand took the top spot in Group A of the AFC Futsal Championships after a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Kyrgyzstan at the Nimibutr Stadium yesterday.

In a clash of two unbeaten sides, it was the hosts who had the final say and potentially secured an easier quarter-final clash against the runners-up of Group B.
