Publicity for free schools

Published on May 13, 2008

The names of 21,000 government primary and secondary schools where government subsidies are fully provided will be publicised so that parents do not have to pay extra money asked for by school managements, the Office of the Basic Education Commission said yesterday.

However, a solution is needed to solve the problem of school managements requesting "voluntary donations" from parents, deputy OBEC secretary-general Somkiat Chobphol said.

"Unconditional restrictions against donations from parents will be an obstacle to schools' development," he said.

The 21,000 schools' names will be published on OBEC's website, www.obec.go.th.

Princess' poem to grace postcards

A poem glorifying Visakha Puja Day composed by HRH Crown Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will be published on 50,000 postcards for free delivery to the public this year.

She will today preside over a ceremony for Buddhists to vow against drinking at the 11th Infantry Regiment (Royal Guards) compound in Bang Khen district.
