Thaweesak Srithongdee's figurative pop paintings and raw cartoon fantasies appear regularly in magazines like Image, Volume and Priew.
He's a guest lecturer in illustration at Bangkok University and, until May 17, has a solo show called "Soldier" at the new D Gallery in Phuket. The works address the tragedy of war, particularly how battles affect the young men who fight them. Thaweesak has got a pretty hectic schedule, so he was thrilled to be asked where he'd go if he had a chance to get away. His answer: Paris.
Is Paris really so special? I've been there three times but I still want to go back again. It's a romantic city!
Who gets to go with you this time? I want to walk hand in hand with my girlfriend along the Seine River. I love to watch the passers-by while sipping coffee in a sidewalk cafe. I want to take her to my favourite ice-cream parlour. The ice cream is fantastic!
You have two weeks to live. Where would you go? I love going to any mountainous areas because they resemble a scene in my favourite film, "Sense and Sensibility". I'd just want to sit and absorb the beautiful scenery before saying goodbye to this world.
