RCA club Slim has radically changed, with lots more room to stretch out and socialise
By Tossaporn Wongwaikolayoot Daily Xpress With three successful years on RCA in its pocket, the youth hangout Slim has just finished renovating its Slim Live zone to appeal to career people 25 to 35 years of age.
Designer Tanakorn Kao-charoenpong has gone for modern and homey for the live gig venue. There's more space, more sofas and more bars, making it a great place for the office crowd to unwind after work. "Everything is new," he says. "There are bigger tables, more comfortable sofas, a new sound system and bars on two floors. It's more airy, and even when you're up on the mezzanine floor you still can see the stage." Tanakorn says Slim Live usually has songs from the '70s to the '90s playing, ideal for its target customers, and the house bands - Radio Four and Mammoss - perform nightly from 8.45 to 1.30, joined by wellknown singers at least once a week. The debut night last month, pop-jazz diva Jennifer Kim and Koh Mr Saxman were onstage with rockers Jirasak Panpoom, Poo from Blackhead and pop vocalist Masha Wattanapanich. There's live music outside as well, in a garden setting. "In a normal club you enjoy yourself drinking and dancing, but you don't get to talk," says Tanakorn. "I wanted Slim Live to be a place where you can talk and make friends, so I gave priority to the bars - which serve more soft drinks - and the space. People can share the space and interact."
