Asanee and Wasan Chotikul set off on their world tour
Overseas fans of Thai rock legends Asanee and Wasan Chotikul have plenty to celebrate this year: for the first time in their long career, the brothers will be playing free concerts in Asia, Australia, America and Europe. "It's a true musical phenomenon in Thailand's recording history," says Chutchai "Boy" Wiratyosin, marketing director of Boonrawd Trading, which is sponsoring the tour over the next few months in celebration of its 75th anniversary. The duo kicks off the tour on May 11 at Luna Park in Australia. US-based fans can catch them on June 5 at Nokia LA Live in Los Angeles or on June 8 at Terminal 5 in New York. They play in London on September 8 and in Laos on December 13. "We've looked for the best venues around the world for the Thai legends," says Chutchai. "In England, there are several options, including the Royal Albert Hall, Wembley and the O2 Arena. In Australia, the Sydney Opera House was too small, so we opted for the larger Luna Park. "The Laos date has been included at the request of Phi Pom and Phi Toh [Asanee and Wasan]." The concerts will also be recorded by GMM Grammy. "Khon Huajai Singha", penned by Nitipong Hornak, much of which was filmed at Phu Chee Fah in Chiang Rai, is being aired on TV as a commercial for the coming world tour. "We want to thank our customers around the world for supporting Singha products," says Chutchai, adding that the tour budget is around Bt100 million.
