A designer makes creative use of old fertiliser sacks
Muddy, used fertiliser sacks are no longer just worthless rubbish. The designers at Reflections have recently turned them into cool, eye-catching items for the home. Owner-designer Anusorn Ngernyuang has spent the last decade creating kitschy home-decor pieces and cloth bags that he's exported to Japan and Europe. Four years ago, he expanded his operations, opening the kitsch-laden boutique hotel Reflections, which was serious about recycling and otherwise boosting its green credentials. Anusorn recently launched the Global Trash collection, which includes handbags, shopping bags, suitcases, boxes, photo frames, chairs, lamps, beanbags, stools, notebooks, aprons and purses. These items are made of reused fertiliser sacks and come in pink, blue, purple, red and white. "My designs always focus on natural and recycled materials and this Global Trash collection is based on a campaign to promote awareness of global warming that matched the objectives of my 'green' hotel," says Anusorn. The distinctive rooms at Anusorn's celebrated hotel are the fruit of collaborations with artists like graphic designer Bodin Apiman, photographer Anon Singhtongla and illustrator Kongpat Sakdapitak. The store has a fashion corner where lovers of retro can find a variety of clothing and accessories in pastel and electric shades. Also on offer are canvas-based handbags, luggage, wallets, stools, chairs, dolls and key rings. Reflections has branches at the Baiyoke Building and the Platinum Fashion Mall.
