CAFE CULTURE
A sip and a nibble

It's nowhere near mealtime, but you're feeling peckish - time for High Tea!

Amid the clamour of restaurants, boutique shops, condominiums and office buildings, there's an oasis of calm and refinement on Langsuan. High Tea is the name of a cute little teahouse that offers a selection of quality infusions as well as yummy pastries.

Relocated from its original spot just a few hundred metres down the road five months ago, High Tea has joined up with its sister restaurant Mokka. Regulars will recognise the same sweet, vintage white decor though, along with the low coffee tables and comfy sofas mixed with tall wooden dining tables and padded leather chairs. You can opt to sit outside as well, often a good idea for the cooler and quieter evenings - it's a smoking area too.

Once you've picked your sofa, it's time to choose your favourite cup of tea. High Tea serves Betjeman and Barton, a French brand that comes in green, black, red or white tea. Also on the menu are traditional leaves like Earl Grey or English Breakfast. Or you can be a little adventurous and go for a funky flavoured number like Gentleman tea - basically Earl Grey with chocolate and vanilla extract - or the enticing-sounding Love, with dried jasmine, ylang ylang and a drop of orange essential oil. A pot is Bt80. Coffee, fruit juice and smoothies can be had for between Bt70 and Bt95.

Complement your cup with a wide selection of homemade nibbles, pastries and cakes - this is High Tea, after all. You can order up an assortment of bite-size sandwiches with various fillings, blueberry or cherry panna cotta, oven-baked mini bruschetta, crepes suzette and different flavours of ice cream. Not to be missed is the chocolate cake made with pure Belgian chocolate and no flour. Prices start from Bt110.

Free wi-fi access is available too.
