Thanks to Heineken initiative, six fans will win tickets to watch the final on May 21
Heineken, the world's leading premium beer, yesterday unveiled four gigantic footballs for fans to sign their best wishes in support of their favourite teams vying for the coveted trophy this year and six of them will win a trip to Moscow as well. "This initiative is indeed a rare treat for fans here because the event is the first of its kind ever held in Thailand," said Ronnie Teo, Thai Asia Pacific Brewery's Commercial Director. The balls will be displayed from April 23 to 26 at CentralWorld for enthusiasts to sign. However, only two balls representing the teams making it to the final will be flown to Moscow, where the game will be held at the Luzhniki Stadium on May 21. Six lucky fans registering at www.heisociety.com and at the booth in front of CentralWorld will also accompany the balls to Moscow. Aside from the balls, a gigantic replica of the Champions League trophy - standing about five metres tall and claimed to be the world's biggest made out of Heineken beer cans - is also on display. At a news conference yesterday, well-known personalities and actors including Saksit Thangthong, Pongpisut Pew-on, Attachart Sripakdee and Sunny Suwanmethanon were among the very first group of fans who signed their best wishes on the footballs. Before the huge media attention inside the Heineken Star Dome located at Centr-alWorld, they discussed their favourite teams' chances of lifting this year's trophy. Die-hard Liverpool fan Saksit said that among the semi-finalists, his side boasted the best pedigree, having won the trophy five times. "Although Chelsea earned a gift from the last minute own goal by Riise in the first leg semi-final, I'm upbeat that Liverpool would beat Chelsea in the second leg," he said. DJ Attachart admitted that Chelsea were lucky and lady luck would still be with his team in the rematch. He predicted that the Blues will win with a scoreline of 2-0. Pongpisut, a Manchester United fan, said his team fielded more strong and great players than their rivals Barcelona and he believed that the Red Devils stood a better chance of reaching the final. Actor Sunny, who had switched his passion from Premier League teams to Barcelona since he was bored with the English sides, praised Barcelona saying that they are one of Europe's best teams.
