PUMPING IN THE PORT
Stereophonics ahoy!

The Welsh rockers sail into Klong Toei for a floating party as part of the 100 Rock outdoor festival series
By Manta Klangboonkrong Daily Xpress The Stereophonics have released five studio albums since 1997, charted the Top 20 with a string of indie-rock hits and racked up millions of sales. Then, following an absence, the Welsh group - vocalist-guitarist Kelly Jones, bassist Richard Jones and drummer Javier Weyler - made an incredible comeback last year with the single "It Means Nothing" from a new album, "Pull the Pin". And now they're ready to claim the stage in Bangkok for the second time. This time around the trio will be headlining "100 Rock the Uncensored", Bangkok's series of outdoor rock festivals, along with local favourites Modern Dog and Paradox. The venue is impressive too: a cargo ship that can handle 4,000 people. Here, bassist Jones chats with Daily Xpress by phone ahead of the floating show.
What's up with the 'Phonics? We've been touring and recording for the past three months for the new album that hopefully will come out next year. After Bangkok we're going to Singapore and Australia, and then playing at some festivals in Europe. We'll be touring till the end of the year.
What's the new album going to be like? It's a continuation from the last one - three-piece rock 'n' roll music, but it will have different vibes, with more melody.
What's in store for Bangkok? Last time we were there we only did an acoustic show, so we're really excited about doing a full live show. Bangkok is a vibrant city with lots of energy. It's a nice place and I'm looking forward to playing there again.
This time you'll be playing on a boat! Yeah! We've done that before in a club in the UK. Fortunately this boat isn't moving - I get seasick.
