The announcement was made at yesterday's launch of a photo contest titled "Lok Ron Phan Lens" (Global Warming Issue as Seen Through the Lens) by the ministry's Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation (Public Organisation) and the World Bank.

The contest, inviting people to submit pictures on the issue and their solutions before June 5, is being held to raise public awareness in reducing greenhouse gases to tackle global warming, says organisation chief Santhad Somchivita. The World Bank is holding similar competitions in other countries, he adds.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Anongwan Thepsuthin says that Thailand has emitted nearly 250 million tons of greenhouse gases though the ministry's past projects, like planting trees, promoting environmentally friendly trash disposal and reducing the burning of garbage, did help reduce emissions by two million tons.

She said the ministry would continue its efforts and was currently looking to add more green spaces in the country.
