Whole country goes into watery frenzy
The whole country, locals and tourists alike, is revelling in Songkran-festival celebrations.

Many roads are closed so fun-filled water shenanigans can be had safely. One of these is the internationally famous Khao San Road. Khao San Road is overflowing with cheerful festivities, including lots of water. Rice powder is being applied liberally on one another, even though this practice has been prohibited. Other popular roads celebrating the festival are Khao Niew Road in Khon Kaen and Khao Lam Road in Nakhon Ratchasima. In downtown Chiang Mai, crowds of tourists are getting into the traditional festivities. The province celebrates in the traditional Lanna style. In Hat Yai in Songkla, people to continue well into the night with their fun, including the many visitors from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Visitor numbers are reported higher than three years ago. Merit making is performed throughout the country, too. The Tourism Authority estimates around Bt4.8 billion will be spent over the festival buy locals and tourists alike.
