Wanted man says he stabbed Finnish lawyer during a bungled robbery

Published on April 5, 2008

A Lop Buri man arrested this week for the murder of a Finnish lawyer in Pattaya late last month confessed to the killing, police say.

Pakphum Pohiam, 26, admitted fatally stabbing Erkki Aaltonen, 65, early on March 25 and stealing a mobile phone, two watches and Bt3,000 in cash, they said.

The suspect, found staying with relatives in Nakhon Sawan on Wednesday, said he and his girlfriend Nipaporn (Ann) Pootoh had plotted to rob the victim.

Year-long affair

His girlfriend, who had been having an affair with Aaltonen, left the door to the Finn's flat open, but the 65-year-old caught Pakphum stealing his belongings and a fight ensued.

One-legged

Pakphum allegedly panicked and stabbed the one-legged foreigner, who ran a law firm, numerous times.

Police said Pakphum, who was taken to re-enact the drama at the Jomtien Grand Condotel on Thursday, had been jailed previously for drug-related offences. They said Pakphum's confession was different to that of his girlfriend, who was arrested a week ago.

Israeli arrested

Meanwhile, an Israeli man was taken into custody by police in Pattaya following a drama with a bargirl - found naked, hysterical and with her head half shaved early on Thursday.

Bpenthipa Bpokseen, 28, from Sukothai alleged that Reuven Zalait had held her down and began shaving her head after she refused to participate in group sex with him and his Israeli wife.

Threesome

Bpenthipa said she agreed to go to the Israeli's hotel room for sex for a fee of Bt2,000. But she alleges the man got angry after she refused to participate in sex with both Zalait and his wife.

The Israeli's wife had disappeared by the time police went to the hotel. Investigations are continuing.
