Chatthip Tanthaprasat, a lawyer of Thaksin, said the former prime minister would issue a statement to defend himself following the Assets Examination Comm-ittee's decision to indict him. A panel headed by Sak Korsaengreung will recommend to the Attorney-General within two weeks. Chatthip said Thaksin was empowered by the law to provide the loan because the Burmese government extended Thailand an exclusive right to develop a natural gas reserve site in Burma.
