Unesco honoured the historic inscriptions at Phra Chetupon Wimolmangkhalaram temple, or Wat Pho. Abbot Phra Thampanyabodi and his deputy Phra Rajawethi received UN certification yesterday, the anniversary of the death of King Rama III. Phra Rajawethi says the king had vision when he commissioned the inscriptions, which record traditional knowledge, including "hermit" yoga posture, onto 1,360 marble plates in the 1830s. It made the temple the country's first university. Fine Arts Department director-general Kriengkrai Sampatchalit says it will register the inscriptions and consider publishing them in a book.
