They should map out a work plan for the Bali Roadmap and show progress on talks on further commitments for Kyoto Protocol parties, said a United Nations official yesterday. "People feel proud of what we achieved in Bali last December. Here in Bangkok we will do a significant part, mapping out and identifying what is going to be decided and when, as well as seeing what additional meetings are needed," said Yvo de Boer, an executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Commitment The talks on further commitments for Kyoto Protocol parties will include considering the tools available to industrialised countries to reach further emission reductions, he said. The two expected goals is expected to be finalised on Friday. "This is incredibly challenging to all of us and it will lead up to the Copenha-gen Agreement, which will show us how we will tackle global warming after the Kyo-to Protocol period," de Boer said. The talks will be attended by more than 1,100 participants from 163 countries. The conference ends on Friday.
