But before the coach plunged down a 20-metre drop, Somphorn yelled to his passengers to brace themselves. "The brakes are bad. Grab hold of something now!" he shouted, one passenger says from hospital. Somphorn was killed instantly. The Malaysian and Singaporean tourists all sustained injuries, some requiring hospitalisation.

Cellular in the air

Passengers will soon be able to use mobile phones on board airliners. Studies have found avionics are not affected by cellular frequencies, the Civil Aviation Department says.

Director-general Wutthichai Singmanee says recent studies show avionics on aircraft are protected from cellular frequencies. Anyway, mobile phones don't work at high altitudes, the studies found.

Wrong to cut

The Public Health Ministry and Medical Council are responsible for allowing young boys to be illegally castrated, a survey says.

The Suan Dusit poll says both agencies are negligent because they failed to regulate doctors against surgery on minors.
