As many as 5,000 Bangkok sixth graders will miss out on getting into the schools they want to attend. They'll have to settle for second best, the government says.

But, the Basic Education Commission promises no pupil will be left out in the cold this school year. The unlucky ones will be enrolled in "other" schools by April 10, Kasama Varavarn of the commission says.

Placement tests

Students are having to apply for their preferred schools and are sitting placement tests on April 6 or April 7. News of how they do will be released on April 10.

The commission says there are many state schools with room to take up the 5,000 who will miss out on their first choice.

These include Hor Wang, Sara Witthaya, Ratchawinit Bang Khen, Triam Udom Phatthana-karn Ratchada, Jan Hun Bamphen, Phibool Uppa-tham and Satree Witthaya.
