Viktor Bout
High-profile prisoner

Russian Viktor Bout, behind bars in Bangkok. The Criminal Court yesterday extended by 12 days the detention of the man alleged to be one of the world's biggest black- market arms dealers.

Bout, 41, faces US charges of "conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organisation" for allegedly arranging to sell weapons to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.

The multi-million-

dollar deal he thought he had with Colombian rebels was really a sting operation by US agents. Thai authorities are also

considering filing terrorism-related charges.
