Be still, my beating heart

The director of teen-love movie 'Hormones' brings out a book of photos shot on set

Published on March 19, 2008

Songyos Sugmakanan hasn't just come up with what promises to be the teen movie of the year. He's also given his audience a different angle with a book of photographs that capture the stars of the romantic comedy on the set.

The book, which like the movie is called "Pid Term Yai Huajai Wawun" ("Hormones"), will be available from tomorrow to coincide with the release of the flick.

"I'm fascinated by photographs," says Songyos, who graduated from Chulalongkorn University's mass communications faculty. "I always carry my camera around with me.

"One day, I found I had lots of images and decided it would be good to use them to promote the film."

Songyos won an award at the Berlin Film Festival for his debut solo effort "Dek Hor" ("Dorm") and was one of the six directors behind the 2003 blockbuster "Fan Chan".

Published by In, the book features scenes from the movie plus an entire section of images of outtakes that are guaranteed to delight fans of the Thai and Japanese cast.

"My favourite photo is from a scene where Nong Nak [Charlie Trairat] is gazing at Nong Pat [Angsumalin Sirapatsakmetha] while they're watching a movie. It's so expressive of puppy love," he says.

"I don't mean for the book to tell the story of the movie. It's more of a collection on the same theme - holiday love and hormones running wild. The photos speak for themselves; they depict the confusion caused by mood swings."
