Pleum runs into trouble with the Bangkok crowd
ML Nattakorn "Pleum" Devakula is quickly finding out that politics is a minefield.

The usually popular TV talker and new film star, who may well be harbouring political ambitions, lost several limbs last week because of one of his weekly "Anchorman" columns in the Bangkok Post, titled "Rosana Tositrakul - Are you kidding me?" It was published side-by-side with Rosana's response, "ML Nattakorn Devakula, who's kidding whom?" Pleum was lamenting the result of the Senate election in Bangkok, saying voters had chosen an "anti-capitalist". Rosana answered all of his charges with aplomb and warned him to think carefully next time before voicing his opinion. "I have the patience to seek sense in what you write," she said. The battle in print was translated into Thai on the Manager website and more than 1,500 readers slammed Pleum there over the next couple of days. Rosana is cool enough to just get on with her job but, as for Pleum, he's sliding. Lots of people have criticised him because he's always selling something in TV ads and the media is sort of saturated with him lately. He just doesn't seem the right salesman at the moment for big-city things like condominiums, cars and credit cards. But there's a huge market upcountry. Maybe the promoters in the provinces can put him to good use flogging chicken feed.
