Chiang Mai finally gets Fat
The Fat Festival's first foray into Chiang Mai earlier this month drew almost 30,000 people.

Call that a success, even with 18,000 tickets given away to the ladies to commemorate International Women's Day. But there were problems. First off, Chiang Mai is new at this rock-fest business. Confusion seeped through the event and expectations teetered. Second, the venue - the airport parking lot - was pretty dusty. Of course no one was expecting anything like Bangkok's Impact Challenger Hall, but there was only room for two stages, and there were nearly 30 artists vying for attention with 40 retail booths. Most of the bands were from the capital - 7th Scene, Jetsetter, Sing Nuea Suea Tai, Scrubb, Siam Secret Service, 4 Tao Ther, Monotone, Crescendo, Superbaker, Gene Mahasamut, Apartment Khunpa, Slur, Ornaree, Saturday Seiko, Sqweez Animal and Flure. One thing that was exactly the same in Chiang Mai, though - lots of creative thinking.
