SOUND BYTES
Two Shoes

The Cat Empire (Velour)

Published on March 12, 2008

This Melbourne-based alternative ska outfit hit it big in 2003 with "Hello", which Thai listeners will probably best remember from the popular Heineken commercial. Their new album, produced by Jerry Boys and recorded in Havana, Cuba, is a mix of Latin, jazz, ska, funk and rock with a driving, thriving beat that captures all the energy of a live band at its peak. Standout tracks are "Lullaby" and "Protons, Neurons, Electons".

These Streets

Paolo Nutini (Atlantic)

The Scottish singer-songwriter sounds considerably older than his 19 years on this, his double-CD debut album. Most of the songs on Disc 1, including "Last Request", "Million Faces" and the title track, are based on his awesome guitar work and his soulful vocals. "White Lies" is a truly beautiful number. The songs on Disc 2 were recorded at Isle of Wright Festival in England.
